Damnit man it’s such a simple answer. But intuitive to me it was not. It does indeed take a community. How can one person learn everything from medicine to music, flintknapping, hand to hand, farming and animal husbandry, map making, gun smithing, regular smithing, staying proficient with your weapons and able to move about with all your stuff at speed, while working for the man in modern times, and then mess around with radios as well? I need to know at least a little bit but I may have found a can of worms I will not open all the way 😁 unlikely

I'm really glad to see this type of review. I contains objective results obtained from some type of test equipment to check that design of the RF emissions. We should keep in mind that the TinySA is also an inexpensive piece of test gear. When the test results are as close as they are in this video, I think that it would be better to use a lab-grade spectrum analyzer to make a better evaluation of the RF signal before judging it as outside of the FCC requirements. The TimySA (and the NanoVNA) is a good rough indicator of the signal quality, but I wouldn't use it as a high acuracy indicator. Jim N4FAF

About 2 months ago I bought my nanovna-h4 from Bangood. After that I watched pretty near every video available on how to check swr. In the mean time I bought some adapters, cables and dust caps. Hey SmkAp. You get less noise because you are killing your signals. You use lossy chokes, 1:1's, or whatever you can find to develop loss. Try reducing your radio RF gain. That way you don't lose transmit power. I saw a video where you say that the common mode currents are not in addition to our desired signals, but by tuning (matching) the antenna to the transmission line, we maintain all currents as desirable currents rather than trying to attenuate portions of currents you feel we don't need. That's how I keep RF out of the shack. I don't think you fully understand R +jX. R is the resistance of the antenna. All of it. Resistive and the radiation resistance. The X is the additive quantity of the antenna inductive reactance added algebraically to the antenna capacitive reactance. Circuit wise, you could take a resistor, capacitor and an inductor, all in series and your newly developed circuit will act like an antenna. Kinda. You won't have odd multiples. But at the resonance, your XL and Xc cancel and you have the R remaining. Right? Right. This is the electrical model of your antenna. Like your modelling program gives you the R+ jX value. You still with me? Makes sense? No. Because you don't know how to balance this series circuit. I don't believe in balanced and unbalanced circuits (Or antennas), so it doesn't bother me. But you are wondering about that. Why isn't the unbalancedness listed on the modeling program? Model an OCFD. It's not unbalanced. It's great for this old RFI bus driver to be free of the shackles of old XYL's tales. 73. N9XR.

nice job. yes choke all cables. I even do my mic cable with one of them snap ferrites . i use USB cable on my 7300 so I got nice long one and wrap it threw FT 140-31 bunch of times. if that antenna feed line works out 450 ohm then 9:1 Balun. have to model antenna to get feed point ohms impedance. the off set center fed get confusing that not balance antenna but takes a balanced feed line. That why a Balun . feed line balance to un-balanced . so when looking at Balun and UNUN . you look at feed line in and out. some folded dipole work out 300 ohm . so a 4:1 gets close. when doing folded di pole the distance between the wires is part of impedance. like the folded dipole for FM radio is 300 OHM made out of twin lead. their is a double folded di pole type that is 450 ohm. for best with feed line loss is to get close to the feed line impedance as the antenna as possible. the trouble with window line is keep away from metal and try to keep it dry . 73's

Ape this message is regarding learning the AARL technician and general books. I am the reading every page of both books studying old school, and testing for both exams on June 1st at the hamfest in Marietta, GA.(Atanta suburb). I finished the technician manual and am in chapter 4 of the general manual now. Burned up 3 pens and 66 pages of notes so far. Probably will have 100+ pages of notes when Im done. Made flashcards too. If you are interested I will share my study techniques to encourage others to deeply dive into this material. To learn it, understand it, and be able to apply it in their radio journey. I did not want to just memorize the Q and A "cheat sheets" and get my general license. Where is the learning in that? You seem to be ine of the best on teaching new people like me. You and Dave Casler. I intend on watching every single one of his videos. Keep up the good work. Thank you. -Dan

@TheSmokinApe will do Ape. The books tell you to learn all words in italics. Only about 1/3 of the words in italics are actually on the test. There is easily 4 times more information in these books that is on the test. I am also making so.e diagrams and actually working out the math problems without memorizing the answers. In many questions the answer given is "D, all of the above choices are correct". I write down all the answers. I am writing out, by hand the questions and answers to all 450 questions in both books. These books are excellent!!! Many say you don't need this much info on the how and why to get on the air. I disagree. I'm not gonna bet opinionated about this though, too many hams are way to opinionated -reminds me a lot of the gun culture! It's all good. I seek people like you and Dave. The hobby deserves deep learning, education, and dedication. I also bought the huge ARRL Antenna book and will read most of that too. I am planning a full wave 80 meter horizontal delta loop. Not sure of I told you I bought my first radio, with all the Yaesu extras. All used. The Yaesu FT-1000MP mark V. Will send you much data on my notes, study habits, flashcards, and my test scores. I will have had the books for 22 days before I take the test! But studying about 5 hours a day (OK I'm a little intesnse) I'm a homesteader who gardens. Have orchard, chickens, rabbits, bees, etc. I teach homesteading for free and do many old time types of things our grandfather's used to do. I am just a novice at ham, brand new, so not trying be an expert. I'm a loner who won't be on RUclips, but I learn all the time. Just wanting to share some old school study habits (I invented nothing) but I believe there is a lot better way than memorizing the Q and A. The bands deserve better. The hobby deserves better. Thank you Ape.
